WOOD AND ENVIRONMENT

Wood is a renewable raw material that is an integral part of the natural cycle. The manufacturing process of wood products consumes less energy than many other building materials and the greater part of the energy consumed is bioenergy that is recovered in the form of by-products (shavings and sawdust).

Wood absorbs carbon dioxide so well that the more constructions are made in wood, the more they clean the atmosphere by storing carbon dioxide. Wooden constructions can therefore in a way compensate for the impact of materials that are less environmentally friendly. Generally speaking, the use of wood reduces the negative impact on the environment. Wood is the ideal construction material. It can be reused, repaired, recycled and used to produce energy at the end of its life cycle as fuel, for example, to replace fossil fuels.

It is the only raw material used in the building sector that has obtained environmental certification and it is the only renewable raw material. Wood has a lower impact of on the environment during its life cycle than concrete or steel.
